FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can you have the jewellery custom made with your OWN horse hair?

Yes absolutely!! Instructions on how to cut the hair, how much to take, and where to send it are on the page here.

How strong is Horse Hair Jewellery?

Actually Horse Hair is extremely tough! It can be worn all the time, as long as there is no abrasion on the hair. However, it can be colour affected so avoid hair dyes, bleaches and harsh chemicals. It can get wet but I would advise removing it for safety if swimming in the ocean etc. For more details go to the Horse hair Braided Jewellery information page here.

What exactly IS 9 carat Gold?

Since pure ( fine) gold is too soft for most uses it is alloyed with other metals, usually silver and copper, to achieve a desired hardness and colour. 9 Carat Gold is an alloy of fine gold, fine silver and copper, and has the stamp of quality of 375. This means it has 9 parts pure gold out of 24 parts. Or 37.5%, which is where the metric stamp comes from - 375. Available in Yellow, Rose and White, the other metals are in a different quantity to give a range of the 3 colours, but there is still the same amount of pure gold in the mix.
